App settings vs shop settings
Scope | Typical path | Examples |
|---|---|---|
App / platform |
| Access gates, search/crawlers, order workflow (platform), some branding/email/media rules |
Shop |
| Shop profile, product modes, orders, stations, payments, billing, Team permissions, custom domain |
Without Switch As, root often edits the platform template workspace. For a real shop’s payments or profile, Switch As into that shop before changing shop Settings.
Platform-wide tabs that are root-only include Access gates, Search & crawlers, and Order workflow (platform).
Access gates
Restrict surfaces such as:
Public marketing site
Admin / staff app
Marketplace
Portfolio (includes portfolio and talent-style surfaces as configured)
Modes may include open / maintenance / IP allowlist / redirect (per product UI). These affect everyone, not one shop — change carefully.
Search & crawlers
Robots / LLM / crawler policy for platform surfaces. Coordinate with marketing and legal before tightening.
Order workflow (platform)
Platform-wide production step catalog / order status transition rules. Shop floor stations still have shop-level enablement under shop Settings.
Setup preview
Platform root may open a Setup preview screen on trial or specially enabled environments. It mimics the wizard for UX review and does not provision a real shop.
Do not confuse preview with a live shop’s Setup after signup.
Trial / staging root accounts
On trial sites, use the demo accounts your team shares internally. Never reuse trial passwords on production.
Prefer Switch As and plan assignment over editing live customer data unless support asks.
